Yitzhak Rabin (Hebrew: \u05d9\u05b4\u05e6\u05b0\u05d7\u05b8\u05e7 \u05e8\u05b7\u05d1\u05b4\u05bc\u05d9\u05df \u200e, 1 March 1922 \u2013 4 November 1995) was an Israeli politician and general. He was the fifth Prime Minister of Israel, serving two terms in office, 1974-1977 and from 1992 until his assassination in 1995.<\/p>\n

Following the Labour Party\u2019s defeat at the 1977 elections, Rabin became a member of Knesset. From 1984 to 1990, he served as Minister of Defense. In 1992, Rabin was elected as chairman of the Labor Party, who managed to win the elections that year, strongly focusing on Rabin\u2019s popularity. Rabin played a leading role in the signing of the Oslo Accords, which created the Palestinian National Authority and granted it partial control over parts of the Gaza Strip and West Bank. After the historical handshake with Yasser Arafat, Rabin said, on behalf of the Israeli people, \"We who have fought against you, the Palestinians, we say to you today, in a loud and a clear voice, enough of blood and tears ... enough!\"<\/p>\n

In 1994, Rabin won the Nobel Peace Prize together with Shimon Peres and Yasser Arafat.<\/p>\n

The Oslo agreement was opposed by Hamas and other Palestinian factions, which launched suicide bombings at Israel, and many protest demonstrations in Israel objecting to the Accords. On November 4th, 1995, during a mass rally in support of the Oslo Accords, Rabin was assassinated by a right-wing Israeli radical, who was opposed to the Accords. Rabin was the first native-born prime minister of Israel, and the only prime minister to be assassinated. <\/p>\n
